Winneshiek Co. 4 years after her parents emigrated from Norway. She and John were married 7 Jun 1881 in Glenwood Twp. The couple began farming on land adjoining her father, Thorer Bolson's farm. In 1911 they went to northwestern South Dakota to take up land under the Homestead Act. They moved back to Decorah in 1918.

Their first 2 children, Carl and Clara, died in infancy. Then followed: Mathilda Clara (30 Jan 1886-1969) married John Hegtvedt (b. 15 Jun 1871) in 1906; Theodore Julius (6 Feb 1888-May 1972) married Mary Rae Hippenstill (1 May 1889-23 Mar 1987) in 1913; Herman Adolph (23 Jan 1890-14 Jun 1929) married Anna Helgeson (17 Jul 1885-1 Sep 1971) in 1910; Josephine Gunilda (11 Oct 1891-16 Jun 1987) married Melvin Theodore Stephens (7 Nov 1885-6 Dec 1960) 11 Aug 1914; Carl Bernhard (29 Jul 1893-25 Apr 1969) married Anna Paine (b. 22 Nov 1901) in 1921; Emil Arthur (15 Mar 1895-1 Dec 1959) married Ella Fisher (b. 17 Jan 1892); Nellie Jeanette (13 Aug 1897-15 Apr 1951) married Roy Barth (20 Mar 1894-1 Oct 1957) 7 Nov 1918; Karen Johanna (8 Mar 1900-Sep 1990) married Milton Hiller (b. 13 Mar 1900); Alfred Hilman (b. 19 Sep 1902) married Amelia Soriede (b. 13 Mar 1900); and Oscar Tolvinues (31 Aug 1904-Jun 1923).

After returning from South Dakota they settled in a home at 508 E. Main Street in Decorah which became the gathering place for the many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All the members of the family who had accompanied their parents to South Dakota came back to Iowa except the eldest son who remained on the prairies until 1932 when drought, grasshoppers and the depressed economy drove him out with his wife and child. They went to California and became successful people.

John Buer and his wife were active in Decorah Lutheran Church. John worked for the A.R. Coffeen Construction Co. and for the Decorah Gas Co., always at hard labor but always taking satisfaction in a job well done. He died 22 Jun 1847; his wife Johanna died 27 Feb 1944. They are buried in the Pontoppidan Cemetery in Glenwood Twp.

James Allen Bullard, M.D. was born in Boone, IA  to Kermit Esper Bullard of French-lrish descent, and Marjorie Neola Hagge of German descent. Kermit was born in Panora, IA 15 Dec 1908 and Marjorie was born in Beaver, IA 19 Aug 1911. He had one sister, Jo Ann Bullard,

James married Jane Katherine Anundsen 4 Sep 1954 in Decorah. Jane was born in Decorah to Brynjolf Bjorkholt Anundsen, of Norwegian descent, and Doris Ellen Killen, of Irish descent. Brynjolf was born in Decorah 16 Jun 1902 and Doris was born in Monona, IA 16 May 1903. Jane had one brother, John Killen Anundsen,.

James and Jane have 3 children: Bruce James, Bradley John and Beth Jane.

Bruce was born in Detroit, Ml . He attended the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, Wl and graduate school in Bozeman, MT He married Corrina Peinemann from Gottingen, Germany 12 Aug 1989 in Decorah. Bruce is working for U.S. Long Distance and Corrina works for Microsoft in Seattle, WA. Bradley was born in Nurnberg, Germany . He attended the University of Wl, Eau Claire and graduated from Dental School at the University of Iowa in 1988. He married a dental classmate, Alicia Ann Frank, from Palatine, IL in Decorah 20 Aug 1988. Their children are: Christopher Joseph and Cassandra Ellen. They all live in Winona, MN. Beth Jane was born  in Decorah. She graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN and married Scott Alan Knudsen from Lake City, MN 17 Dec 1983 in Decorah. She works for the Department of Natural Resources and Scott practices dentistry in Lake City. Their children are: Steven James and Michelle Lynn.
